G’Day, Hola, and Hi There,
How is everyone going?? Seeing as you’re all in the northern hemisphere I
guess you’re all enjoying a lovely summer! I on the other hand am down in
snowy (yes, I said snowy) Melbourne. Never would I think I’d live in a place
where it snowed again quite so soon but this week it has gotten cold enough
for there to be snow in a few places around the city!
Life for me as been extremly busy as most of you will know from when I
haven’t been able to reply to emails or talk on MSN.
I’m looking for a new job at the moment. I love the people I work with but
unfortunately I can be getting paid a lot more for my skills and knowing
that, I have had to make the decision to move on. So I’m balancing work and
job interveiws which isn’t easy! I also had a funeral this week of a friend
who had been sick for a long time. I hadn’t been in touch with her in a long
time and it made me realise how important it is just to touch base once in a
while, fill everyone in and let them know you were thinking about them. So I
guess that’s why this email has been written, a long time coming no doubt!!
I’ve done a bit of travel in the last six months (yes I’ve almost been gone
6 whole months!) and will attach some pictures to this email. I went to
Townsville, up in the north of Queensland (top end of Australia, bit like
going to Florida) back in May as my new baby cousin was born and I went to
help out with my other 2 cousins as my uncle had gone away with work. It was
such a great week, reminded me how much I love children and miss being with
them all day. I also went back up to what I call my hometown, Wodonga, to
catch up with my old school friends and go out up there (my memories are a
little bit faded… too much alcohol was consumed.) but I did have a friend
cut my hair, and it looks great!!
I also am off to Perth, on the other side of Australia, at the end of
October to catch up with my friend Chantelle who came over to America when I
left and some other friends. Can’t wait to do that because everyone seems to
have exciting things planned for me!
I am planning on going sky diving in December. God knows why I have decided
to jump out of a plane but figure what the heck, may as well do something
exciting once in a while (I should say, may as well do something that makes
me sick to my stomach just to say I did it and can cross off something else
that I used to fear!).
It’s coming up to university application time. As some will know I was
accepted last year but decided to put it off until next year. I want to go
to a different one, either closer to home or up in Wodonga so I am about to
start that process again. All of this is because I plan to be on exchange in
America in two years time when the fall semester goes back. And for once I
am saving for something and have a serious goal to reach!!
And with all of this I am also going to the gym about 4 nights a week and
seeing my personal trainer. I feel like I am never home!! And most of you
know how much I love hanging out at home. Plus I haven’t done hardly any
scrapbooking, at first it was upsetting to look at my pictures from last
year (sadly, Karen was right and I did regret my decision not to extend!!
And there I was, so stubborn that I wouldn’t regret it…) and then suddenly
time decided to speed up and there is never enough time to do anything! That
could be because I don’t get dressed until late on the weekend, no doubt Pat
remembers how much I loved wearing my PJ’s for as long as possible!
I better get going, this has become really long and no doubt there are
things to be done!
I hope everyone is well. I think about you all often and hope you’re all
enjoying yourselves. I was watching a travel show the other night and heard
the best line, it went something like this “when you die your life flashes
by your eyes, make it worth watching”. So in saying that, I’m going to go
and put petrol in the car, pick up my sister, pick up the pizza’s we’re
having for dinner and watch tv in bed, a nice way to end an insane week.
Take care, miss you all and hope you’re having a ball!
Love Kel

What’s new with Kelly Ann.

Kelly Ann Hookey is currently working fulltime and saving up money for the university, which starts in January. In her spare time she is making her way around Australia catching up with all her friends. She says it is not a very interesting life but is very busy. She wants to hear all about her au pair friends.

Currently Magda is vacationing in Poland, enjoying the landscape and the people. Her next stop is home. Vienna, Austria, where she is studying Sport Science. She is also working on improving her Spanish. When she is not studying she plays soccer in a club. She has great luck getting to know people, just like she did when she was in the US.

Magda says she has nice colleagues at her university. They love to go out and to help each other with their studies, especially in the beginning  because it is kind of hard to know everything.

This summer she will also visit her home town, which is a small village. She plans on taking care of her cat and spend time with her family and “old” friends. When she is in Vienna she doesn’t get to see her friends much. They prefer to live in the small towns and take the train to attend the universities in the city.

Magda is enjoying her life but misses the US, Chicago, and Lake Forest. She especially misses her host family and friends there.  She had a great time as an au pair in the US. She says it was the best thing she could have done and she likes to talk to people about it.  Someday she would like to work for Cultural Care in Vienna and tell people about her experience as an au pair in the United States. Right now Magda wants to concentrate on her studies and soccer.

She is very interested in finding out what other au pairs are doing now that they have returned to their home country. She keeps in contact with a lot of the au pairs she met in Chicago and really misses them. They were great friends.

She also keeps in contact with her former host family in Lake Forest. They now have a webcam and one of the children have shared lots of photos with her from their home. She hopes to visit them someday.
